Yesterday was the second anniversary of this blog. The fact that it’s the second is particularly important because of what got me started.

It was early September, 2011. I was having lunch with a friend, and we were both lamenting the fact that our creative careers had been stuck in the mud for ten years or more. For me it had become a familiar conversation, one I had had many times with myself in journal entries over the years. This one was no different.

Except that I chose to make it different. I looked my friend in the eye and said, “Damn, but I don’t want to be having this same conversation in two years.”

Well, here it is, two years later. In that time, I finally started this blog, drafted about four novels, published two novels, and really focused on making writing a viable career. Suffice it to say, I’m not having the same conversation. No, not everything is perfect. My writing engine is not yet firing on all cylinders even, but now I’m having very different conversations. Which gets greater priority, the SF sequel or the urban fantasy launch? Do I stay on KDP Select or broaden to Kobo and Nook? How soon? What’s the ideal price point this year? Is that for all books, or do I drop the price on the first one?  Should I start podcasting my books? If I go hybrid, how many books do I want in my backlist first?

It’s been a momentous two years. I’d like to say that I’ve done some deep thinking about what comes next, but I haven’t. I probably need to, but for today at least (with various plagues running through the household), I’m content to just make it up as I go.
